FREELAND, Mich. – Seven Olivet College student-athletes have been named to the 2021 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Track & Field Teams. The All-MIAA teams are comprised of individual event winners and members of winning relays at the MIAA Championships.
Named to the All-MIAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Team is junior Lillian Albaugh. On the 2021 All-MIAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Team are sophomore Jordon Brown, sophomore Jordon Butler, junior Kyle McDowell, sophomore Denver Orlando, senior Tyler Peck and sophomore William Reed.
Albaugh captured the MIAA title in the shot put with a season-best mark of 43 feet, 7-1/4 inches. With her selection, she is a four-time MIAA shot put champion –2019, 2020 and 2021 indoors, and 2019 outdoors.
Butler took first-place in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 2-1/4 inches to earn his first All-MIAA award. In addition, he placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.62 seconds. During the preliminaries, Butler ran a season-best time of 8.59 seconds.
McDowell won the 400-meter dash title in a school-record time of 49.57 seconds. He is now a three-time All-MIAA selection to become first male indoor track & field athlete in school history to achieve that feat.
Joining McDowell on the winning 4x400-meter relay were Brown, Peck and Reed. They finished the race in a season-best time of 3:23.79. This same quartet won the 4x4 relay at the 2019 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships to repeat as All-league honorees.
Orlando finished first in the pole vault. He cleared the bar at 13 feet, 5-1/4 inches.
The performances by the men's team helped Olivet finish in a tie for second-place at the MIAA Championships. It is the highest finish at the indoor championships in program history, and the best finish for an Olivet track & field team, indoors or outdoors, since 1975 when the Comets placed second at MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
