Track and field student-athletes compete at last chance meets
A select group of Olivet College indoor track and field student-athletes competed today at two last chance meets. Two throwers participated in the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Final Qualifier in Ada, Ohio. Six athletes traveled to Waverly, Iowa, for the Wartburg College Qualifier.
Smith and McDowell break school records
OLIVET, Mich. – A select group of Olivet College indoor track and field student-athletes competed today at two last chance meets. Two throwers participated in the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Final Qualifier in Ada, Ohio. Six athletes traveled to Waverly, Iowa, for the Wartburg College Qualifier.
At Ohio Northern, junior Jacob Smith competed in the shot put. His mark of 53 feet, 8-1/4 inches was a school record and moved him up to No. 16 on the NCAA Division III Performance List. Sophomore Lillian Albaugh had a mark of 40 feet, 2-3/4 inches in the shot put.
At Wartburg, sophomore Kyle McDowell broke the school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.60 seconds. He previously held the record at 49.88 seconds. McDowell joined with freshmen Jordon Brown and William Reed, and junior Tyler Peck to run the 4x400-meter relay in 3:27.27. Freshman Jordon Butler leaped 21 feet, 11-1/2 inches in the long jump.
The 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place next Friday and Saturday, March 13-14, at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The final list of meet participants will be posted on the NCAA website by 7 p.m. tomorrow.
