FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Kimberly Barber has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Barber is being honored for a third time this season, as she was also selected as the MIAA Athlete of the Week twice during indoor season.
"Kim had an outstanding meet this weekend at Emory, competing in five events over a two day period," said Olivet Head Track & Field Coach Karen Lutzke. "Her triple jump was very close to the school record she set last year. Both her long jump and triple jump marks were outstanding for our first outdoor competition."
Barber competed in the triple jump, long jump, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the Emory (Ga.) University Invitational. Her mark of 34 feet and 2.75 inches in the triple jump currently ranks 26th on the NCAA DIII performance list. Barber's other performances were 13.14 seconds in the 100, 27.60 seconds in the 200 and 16 feet and 1/2 inch in the long jump. She also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x100-meter relay.
The next scheduled competition for Olivet is Saturday, April 8, at the Ferris State Invitational.
