Women’s tennis team edges Alma, 5-4, for first MIAA win of season

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College women's tennis teams edged Alma College, 5-4, this afternoon at Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets won 2-of-3 doubles flights to take a 2-1 lead entering singles play.
- Olivet claimed wins at the first two singles flights to go up 4-1.
- The Scots earned wins at No. 6 and No. 3 singles to close the gap 4-3.
- Freshman Miranda Pier clinched the Comet victory with a win at No. 5 singles.
FOR THE COMETS
- Juniors Maddy Drikakis and BreAnne Rudlaff had no trouble in winning an 8-1 pro-set at the No. 1 doubles slot.
- Sophomore Rae Claramunt and senior Isabel Snyder won an 8-6 pro-set at No. 2 doubles.
- Drikakis coasted to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles.
- Rudlaff posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
- At No. 5 singles, Pier lost the first set 6-1 before bouncing back to win the second set 7-5. Her opponent was unable to complete the match due to an injury, giving the win to Pier.
