BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Freshman Miranda Pier won a marathon match to push the Olivet College women's tennis team past Concordia University, 5-4, this afternoon at the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals had the 2-1 advantage after doubles play. Sophomore Rachael Hager and junior BreAnne Rudlaff picked-up the Comets' only point in doubles with an easy 8-0 pro-set win at the No. 1 position.
- Olivet went ahead 3-2 when Hager coasted to a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and sophomore Rae Claramunt won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
- Concordia took the lead back, 4-3, with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
- The Comets leveled the match at 4-4 after Rudlaff posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.
- Pier then clinched the win for Olivet with a win at No. 6 singles. She was down 4-1 in the first set before coming back to win it on a tiebreaker, 7-6. Pier was up 5-2 in the second set before losing it 7-5 to force a match tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, she fell behind by a 9-2 until rallying for a 9-9 tie and then eventually win it, 18-16.

- Olivet will be on the road next Thursday, Sept. 22, to play Spring Arbor University at 3 p.m.
