Women's tennis team participates in MIAA Fall Flighted Tournament
The Olivet College women's tennis team participated in the first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Fall Flighted Tournament, which was hosted by Kalamazoo College.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College women's tennis team participated in the first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Fall Flighted Tournament, which was hosted by Kalamazoo College. The tournament featured three singles flights and two doubles flights.
For Olivet, senior Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) played in the "A" singles bracket. In the first round, she upset No. 3 seed Mary Catherine Faller from Saint Mary's (Ind.) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. LaValley fell to Irene Chen from Albion in the next round, 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Rebecca Nicholls (Battle Creek/Calhoun Christian) and sophomore Courtney Kidder (Davison) both lost their two matches in straight sets in the "B" and "C" flight, respectively. LaValley and Nichols teamed for the "B" doubles flight and lost two pro-sets.
