Women’s swimming team sits sixth at MIAA Championships
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College women's swimming team sits in sixth-place after day one of the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, held inside the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids. Highlighting day one action was freshman Jennifer Mann, who had a pair of top-three finishes. The Comets have 137 points. Hope College has a slight edge over Calvin University for first-place, 495.5-484.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College women's swimming team sits in sixth-place after day one of the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, held inside the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids. Highlighting day one action was freshman Jennifer Mann, who had a pair of top-three finishes. The Comets have 137 points. Hope College has a slight edge over Calvin University for first-place, 495.5-484.
- Mann finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.83) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.23). In the 200 breast prelims, she broke the school record with a time of 2:22.33, while the 500 is second-fastest in school history.
- Junior Kayla Eichaker placed 12th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.94. Her prelim time, 59.92, was a season-best.
- Freshman Erin Sanders finished 16th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:19.35). Her prelim time, 1:18.32, was also a season-best.
- The 400-yard medley relay quartet of Mann, Eichaker, freshman Carly Braginton and senior Kea Kunz was fifth with a time of 4:10.55, which ranks ninth-fastest in school history.
- Posting season-best times during the preliminaries were:
- Eichaker: 100-yard freestyle (55.43)
- Sarah LaFoe: 200-yard breaststroke (2:43.88)
- Kinsley Noel: 500-yard freestyle (5:39.16)
- Chelsea Perry: 100-yard freestyle (1:05.72) … also a career-best.
- Jasmine VanAtti: 100-yard freestyle (1:02.09)
- Karley Wheeler: 500-yard freestyle (6:43.46) … also a career-best.
- Day two of the championships is Saturday. Prelims get under way at 11 a.m., followed by finals at 5:30 p.m.
