Olivet swimming and diving teams are fifth at 2020 MIAA Championships
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams continue to be in fifth-place after the third day of the 2020 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, held at the Venema Aquatic Center.

Timmerman breaks school record in 100-yard breaststroke
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams continue to be in fifth-place after the third day of the 2020 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, held at the Venema Aquatic Center.
- Olivet has 179 points, which is five points ahead of sixth-place Alma.
- Sophomore Kayla Eichaker finished 14th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.72.
- Junior Keanalanimeleo'kekai Kunz was 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.78, which moves her to No. 9 on the all-time top 10 list.
- Senior Abbie Slater totaled 283.90 points on the one-meter diving board to place eighth. Also in diving, Kunz was ninth with 204.85 points and senior Katie Hansel was 11th with 155.60 points.
- The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Amelia Tomalka, freshman Sarah LaFoe, Eichaker and senior Katie Hansel had a time of 1:56.87.
- The Comets have 234 points, which is 101 points ahead of sixth-place Alma College.
- The 200-yard medley "A" relay team of senior Zach Meharg, freshman Jacob Ritter, freshman Takato Timmerman and senior Eric Wood placed fourth in 1:35.41. The time puts them eighth on the all-time Top 10 list.
- Timmerman clocked-in a school-record time of 57.12 seconds to finish fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- Wood was sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.32.
- Ritter finished second in the consolation heat for an overall finish of 10th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.29 seconds. His prelim time of 51.70 seconds is fourth-fastest all-time at Olivet.
- Meharg placed 13th in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:21.41. During the prelims, he swam the race in 4:19.75, which ranks No. 8 all-time at Olivet.
- The fourth day of the championships is tomorrow. Preliminaries are at 10 a.m., and finals in the same events at 5:30 p.m. Events on the final day of competition are 400 freestyle relay, 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly, as well as men's three-meter diving.
