Day 1 at 2020 MIAA Championships is complete, Wood breaks school record in 200 free
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Day one at the 2020 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships is complete for the Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams. The championships are taking place at the Venema Aquatic Center.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Day one at the 2020 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships is complete for the Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams. The championships are taking place at the Venema Aquatic Center.
- The 800 freestyle relay was the only timed final in tonight's events. This year, teams are allowed to enter both an "A" and "B" scoring relay.
- The "A" relay team of seniors Eric Wood and senior Zach Meharg, and freshman Jacob Ritter and Takato Timmerman finished in fourth-place with a time of 7:05.22, which ranks No. 8 all-time at Olivet.
- Wood led off the relay with a school-record 200-yard freestyle time of 1:42.57. The previous record was 1:42.59 by Austin Munn at the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships.
- The "B" relay team of freshmen Carter Moore, Sebastian O'Leary and Parker Brown, and junior Kolton Epplett recorded a time of 7:24.67.
- The finishes puts the Comets in fourth-place with 38 points.
- Similar to the men, the Comets entered an "A" and "B" team in the 800 freestyle relay.
- The "B" team of senior Amelia Tomalka, junior Ally Smith, junior Keanalanimeleo'kekai Kunz and sophomore Kayla Eichaker clocked-in at 8:34.54.
- The "A" team of senior Katie Hansel and freshmen Sarah LaFoe, Chelsea Perry and Karley Wheeler had a time of 10:02.40.
- The results puts Olivet in fifth-place with 34 points.
- In the preliminaries of the women's three-meter diving, senior Abbie Slater totaled 263.60 points. The score puts her in eighth-place entering tomorrow's finals.
- Day two of the championships gets started tomorrow with preliminaries at 10 a.m., and finals in the same events at 5:30 p.m. Events on day two are 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 400 medley relay, as well as finals for the women's three-meter diving, and prelims and finals of the men's one-meter diving.
