Swimming & diving teams fall to Hope in MIAA dual meets
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams fell to Hope College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meets this afternoon at the Dow Center in Holland. The Comet men lost 136-94 to the Flying Dutchmen, and the Olivet women were defeated by the Flying Dutch, 188-44.

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams fell to Hope College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meets this afternoon at the Dow Center in Holland. The Comet men lost 136-94 to the Flying Dutchmen, and the Olivet women were defeated by the Flying Dutch, 188-44.
- Olivet got off to a fast start with the 400-yard medley team of senior Zach Meharg, freshman Takato Timmerman, freshman Jacob Ritter and senior Eric Wood touching the wall first in 3:43.17.
- Meharg took first-place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.85) and placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.68).
- Timmerman had the fastest time by more than nine seconds in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:16.30.
- Sophomore Cade Erickson won the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.15).
- Wood was the runner-up finisher in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.40).
- The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Wood, Ritter, Erickson and Timmerman was second at 2:05.85.
- Senior Dalton Miner finished second in the one-meter diving with 221.60 points, just 6.25 points away from first-place.
- Sophomore Kayla Eichaker had the third-fastest time in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:33.61.
- Freshman Sarah LaFoe scored second-place points in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:53.46).
- Senior Amelia Tomalka also tallied runner-up points in the 200-yard backstroke (2:30.62).
- "Overall, we had a lot of good swims today," said Olivet head coach Rob Brownell. "I am happy where we are heading, but we still have a lot of improvement. We are also excited now to compete at home next Saturday in one of our only two home meets this season."
- The Comets host Alma College next Saturday, Nov. 23. First swim from the Upton Center Pool will be at 1 p.m.
