Swimming & diving teams end third day of competition at MIAA Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams stand in fifth- and sixth-place after the third day of the 2019 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships being held at the Holland Center in Holland. Prior to tomorrow's final day of events, the Comet men have 204 points, while the women have 126 points.

• Junior Dalton Miner placed fifth in the one-meter diving, scoring a personal-best total of 358.50 points. The total ranks eighth-best all-time at Olivet.
• Junior Eric Wood finished in sixth-place in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 1:43.65. It is also the fifth-fastest time in school history in the event.
• Freshman Zachary Knott was seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.35 seconds. During the prelims, he posted the fifth-fastest time in school history at 59.06 seconds.
• Junior Zach Meharg swam to a 12th-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with a personal-best time by more than four seconds at 4:22.21.
• Also in the 200 free, freshman Cade Erickson was 14th with a time of 1:47.66. During the prelims, he had a personal-best time of 1:46.42.
• Freshman Brandon Burks finished 15th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.86 seconds. In the prelims, he completed the race in a personal-best time of 58.88 seconds.
• Senior Bryan Plesner had the 16th-fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly at 56.76 seconds. His preliminary time, 55.63 second, was a lifetime-best.
• The 200-yard medley relay team of Burks, Knott, Plesner and junior Tom Decker was fifth at 1:42.35.
• Decker achieved a personal-best time of 1:00.43 in the 100-yard butterfly preliminaries.
• In the preliminaries, sophomore Patrick Gault posted a personal-best in the 400-yard individual medley (4:54.81) and season-best in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.23).

• Freshman Kayla Eichaker took second in the consolation heat to finish 10th overall in the 100-yard butterfly with a personal-best time of 59.47 seconds. The time is second-fastest all-time at Olivet.
• Sophomore Keanalanimeleo'kekai Kunz finished 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.61. During the prelims, she swam a personal-best and the 10th-fastest time in school history at 1:14.97.
• The 200-yard medley quartet of senior Samantha Butler, Kunz, senior Sabrina Butler and sophomore Amelia Tomalka touched the wall in sixth-place with a time of 1:58.88.
• Recording lifetime-bests during the preliminaries were Sabrina Butler in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.95) and Samantha Butler in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.83).
• Tomalka recorded a season-best flat start time at 2:08.07 in the 200-yard freestyle.

• The fourth and last day of the championships gets under way tomorrow morning with preliminaries at 10 a.m., and finals in the same events at 5:30 p.m. Events include the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 freestyle relay and women's one-meter diving.
