Women's swimming and diving team falls to Hope, 141-114
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving closed out the dual meet portion of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule with a 141-114 loss to Hope College today at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet. The Comets posted eight first-place and three second-place finishes.

Amy Johnson (Gaylord) was a triple winner, winning two individual events and swimming the leadoff leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay. She took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle (:24.76) and 100-yard freestyle (:55.60). Joining Johnson on the winning relay were Erin Tramper (Jenison), Heather Michalsen (Plymouth/Salem) and Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison). Their time was 1:46.54.
Five others each won an event. In the diving competition, Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) took the top spot on the one-meter board with 221.70 points, while Sara Griffith (Brighton) was first on the three-meter with 214.00 points. Other winners included Redder, 500-yard freestyle (5:29.04); Jackie Taylor (Plainwell), 200-yard backstroke (2:16.90); and Tramper, 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.69).
The second-place finishes were by Griffith, one-meter diving (216.15); Michalsen, 100-yard butterfly (1:05.98); and Taylor, 200-yard individual medley (2:23.66).
The Comets will now take time off and prepare for the 2008 MIAA Championships Feb. 14-16 at the Holland Community Aquatic Center. Action each day gets under way with preliminaries at 10 a.m., and finals each night at 6 p.m.
