Women's swimming and diving team edges Alma, 103-100

The Comets started the meet off with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Jami Lingbeek (Plainwell), Lauren Siedlik (Livonia/Churchill), Amy Johnson (Gaylord) and Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/Central) touched the wall in 2:00.15.
Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison) led an Olivet 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle. She clocked-in 2:04.14, followed by Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio) in 2:08.06. In the 50-yard freestyle, Jackie Taylor (Plainwell) was the Comets' top finisher, finishing in second-place (:27.12). Sara Griffith (Brighton) placed third on the one-meter diving board with 204.35 points.
Taylor was second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.42). Johnson and Lingbeek placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (:55.07) and 100-yard backstroke (1:05.05), respectively. Olivet claimed the top three spots in the 500-yard freestyle. Redder took the spot in 5:30.85, followed by Heather Michalsen (Plymouth/Salem), 5:47.90; and Siedlik (5:53.17).
Griffith also finished in third-place in the three-meter diving competition with 201.95 points. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Erin Tramper (Jenison) was the top Comet, touching the wall in 1:14.90 and finishing in second-place.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the first-place team of Johnson, April Cupps (Garden City), Redder and Lingbeek finished in 1:47.07. The third-place team was Boyd, Taylor, Tramper and Michalsen, and their time was 1:52.47.
Olivet continues its league schedule next Saturday, Jan. 26, when it competes at Albion College. Action at the Dean Aquatic Center gets under way at 1 p.m.
