Women's swimming and diving team beats Albion, 147-94
The Olivet College women’s swimming team won nine-of-13 events en route to a 147-94 win against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College today at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
The Olivet College women's swimming team won nine-of-13 events en route to a 147-94 win against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College today at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
Leading the way for the Comets were sophomores Amy Johnson (Gaylord) and Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison), who each won two individual events and were a part of a winning relay. Johnson was first in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle with times of :54.13 and 2:00.16, respectively. Her time in the 100 broke the school record by .01 seconds. Redder touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (:26.02) and 100-yard butterfly (1:04.50).
Johnson swam with senior Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) and freshmen Lauren Kimble (Holland) and Jackie Taylor (Plainwell) in the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.11). Redder along with Kimble, Taylor and senior Carrie Schroeder (Marshall) were first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:55.76).
The other first-place finishes included Taylor, 100-yard backstroke (1:03.28), freshman Bryenna Richards (Jenison), 200-yard individual medley (2:21.26) and sophomore Erin Tramper (Jenison), 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.29).
In addition, Olivet recorded six runner-up finishes – Kimble, 50-yard freestyle (:26.15), Schroeder, 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.38); junior Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio), 1,000-yard freestyle (11:36.86); senior Christina Coxon (Mason), 100-yard backstroke (1:08.05); and sophomore Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/Central), 500-yard freestyle (5:39.38). The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Boyd, Coxon, Schulze and sophomore Heather Michalsen (Plymouth/Salem) clocked-in second at 1:51.74.
The Comets are back in action Saturday, Dec. 9, when they compete in the North Central (Ill.) College Invitational.
