Men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams compete at the 2006 MIAA Relays
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams participated in the 2006 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Relays at Jenison High School. There were eight relays for each gender and the meet was unscored.

The Comet men, who are the defending MIAA champions, finished in first-place in three relays and second in the other five relays. The first-place relays were the 500-yard crescendo freestyle relay, 400-yard individual medley relay and 200-yard freestyle.
The crescendo relay team clocked-in with a time of 4:19.87. Ryan Key (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prep) went the first 50 yards, followed by Mitch Powers (Kalamazoo/Central) for the next 100 yards, Brian Jaffee (Bowling Green, Ohio) for 200 yards, Yury Bylina (Minsk, Belarus) for 100 yards and Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico) anchored the relay for 50 yards.
Each swimmer swims 25 yards of each stroke (backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle) in the 400-yard IM relay. Olivet's team of Key, Nathan Busscher (Hamilton), Brian Johnson (Lansing/Eastern) and Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason) finished the relay in 3:47.94.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Aguirre, Bylina, Powers and Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland) had a time of 1:29.02.
Fetters, Johnson, Meisner and Powers swam together in the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.70). Aguirre, Bylina, Fetters and Johnson clocked-in at 1:43.64 in the 200-yard backstroke relay. Key and Meisner along with Luke Barry (Pickford) and Jon Hon (Alma) touched the wall in 1:54.55 in the 200-yard breaststroke relay.
Bylina, Fetters, Meisner and Koji Takahashi (Etobicoke, Ontario/ Silverthorn) swam the 200-yard butterfly relay in 1:38.40. Nick Stone (Westland) along with the Jaffee brothers, Brian and Sam, completed the 1,500-yard freestyle relay in 15:32.53.
The Olivet women were second in one relay, third in four relays, fourth in one relay and fifth in two relays. The team of Bryenna Richards (Jenison), Carrie Schroeder (Marshall), Lauren Siedlik (Livonia/Churchill) and Erin Tramper (Jenison) was second in the 200-yard breaststroke relay (1:58.85).
The third-place relays were 200-yard medley, 200-yard backstroke, 500-yard crescendo and 200-yard freestyle. Swimming on the 200-yard medley were Richards, Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/Central), Jackie Taylor (Plainwell) and Rachel Tunison (Erie Mason), 1:59.56. The 200-yard backstroke relay consisted of Taylor, Christina Coxon (Mason), Ashley Oliver (Ironwood) and Kalee Redder (Grandville/ Jenison) with a time of 1:58.85.
The order in the 500-yard crescendo relay was Lauren Kimble (Holland), Amy Johnson (Gaylord), Laura Herzog (St. Joseph), Taylor and Schroeder. Their time was 4:55.57. The 200-yard freestyle quartet was Herzog, Johnson, Kimble and Redder as they completed the event in 1:44.25.
The remaining relays were 200-yard butterfly (Herzog, Kimble, Redder and Tunison), 1:57.66; 400-yard IM (Herzog, Richards, Tramper and Tunison), 4:34.04; and 1,500-yard freestyle (Schulze, Tramper and Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio), 17:18.66.
The Comets return to action next Saturday, Oct. 28, when they swim against Hope College. Action gets under way at 1 p.m. from the Dow Center in Holland.
