The Comets' first win came in the 200-yard medley relay as the team of Christina Coxon (Mason), Amy Johnson (Gaylord), Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison) and Carrie Schroeder (Marshall) touched the wall in 1:59.96. Natalie Iacopelli (Southgate/Anderson) placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:49.72).
Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) led a 1-2-3 Olivet finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time 2:02.46. Jackie Taylor (Plainwell) was second in 2:07.22, followed by Heather Michalsen (Plymouth/Salem) in 2:10.30. In the 100-yard backstroke, Coxon came in second (1:08.81), only .20 seconds behind the winner. Erin Tramper (Jenison) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.54).
The closest race of the afternoon was the 50-yard freestyle. Schroeder edged Taylor by .01 seconds. Schroeder's time was 26.93 seconds. Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) claimed the top spot in the one-meter diving competition with a season-best total of 224.80 points. Later in the meet, she won the three-meter dive (209.85).
Johnson continued the winning ways as she was first in the 100-yard freestyle (:54.82). Taylor was second (:57.99). Herzog claimed first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:23.64), while Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio) placed second (2:31.10).
The highest Olivet finisher in the 500-yard freestyle was Tramper, who took second (5:49.02). Redder finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.35) and second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.31).
Herzog, Johnson and Schroeder each won their third event as they teamed with Taylor for a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:46.22). Olivet's "B" team of Boyd, Coxon, Iacopelli and Tracey Fix (New Buffalo/Comstock Park) placed second (1:54.07).
The Comets return to the pool Saturday, Jan. 27, when they conclude their dual meet schedule with a meet at Kalamazoo College. Action begins at 1 p.m.
