Olivet ties Bluffton, 1-1

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Bluffton (Ohio) University in its season-opener today at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

• Records: Olivet 0-0-1 overall, Bluffton 0-0-1 overall

• Freshman Ella McCormic had a couple early chances to score. Her first shot clanged off the crossbar and a second shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
• The Beavers had the next three scoring chances, but each time senior Sarah Willard was able corral the ball to keep the ball from going into the net.
• Both teams tallied some more scoring opportunities.
• The Beavers got on the scoreboard in the 31st minute. A corner kick was served into the box. Mya Vernon got a shot off which deflected off an Olivet player and into the goal.
• The Comets answered less than four minutes later. Freshman Ava Harshbarger slotted the ball into the box, where McCormic kicked the ball into the net for the equalizer.
• Bluffton had out-shot Olivet 8-3 in the second half to finish the game with an 18-10 advantage.

• McCormic tallied four of the 10 Olivet shots.
• Freshman Jillian Ostrowski and senior Katelyn White each had two shots.
• Willard was in goal for the entire game and collected 10 saves.

• The Comets rest tonight and are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. when they host University of Michigan-Dearborn.
