The Olivet College women's soccer team fell to Alma College, 3-1, today in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest at the Cutler Athletic Complex.
Elaine Cunningham put the Scots ahead 2-0 with a pair of goals in a span of three and a half minutes. The first one came at the 15:14 mark, and the second one came at 18:47. Olivet got on the scoreboard in the 20th minute when sophomore Lizzy Julian (Mattawan) blasted a shot from 35 yards out into the back, left corner of the goal. The goal was her team-leading sixth of the season. Alma's Jessica Swan answered with a goal in the 26th minute. The score stayed 3-1 at halftime, and there was no scoring in the second half.
The Comets recorded 11 shots in the game. Julian and freshman Marcee Lettinga (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Central) each had four shots, including two shots-on-goal. Junior Megan Colby (Sparta/Cedar Springs) collected 10 saves, while facing 23 shots.
Olivet returns to action Saturday when it hosts Hope College as part of the college's Homecoming celebration. Game time is noon. Friends, family, alumni and fans are invited to stay for a celebration of 20 years of Olivet women's soccer after the game.
