Women’s soccer team rallies to beat Kalamazoo, 3-2, in overtime

Freshman Lizzy Julian (Mattawan) scored two goals, including the game-winner with 1:02 left in the first overtime, as the Olivet College women's soccer team rallied to beat Kalamazoo College, 3-2, this afternoon at Mackenzie Field in Kalamazoo.
The Hornets took a 2-0 lead with goals in the seventh and 20th minutes. Olivet got one goal back in the 33rd minute when Julian scored her first goal off a pass from freshman Faith Hatt (Rochester Hills/Rochester Adams). The score remained 2-1 after the first 45 minutes of play.
The Comets tied the game at 2-2 with 6:31 left in regulation when senior Kellie O'Dowd (Jackson) converted a penalty kick.
In the overtime period, Olivet peppered the goal for five shots before Julian's shot found the back of the net in the closing seconds. Hatt along with sophomore Katie Koralewski (Sterlling Heights/Stevenson) each received credit for an assist on the goal.
For the game, the Comets had 13 shots, including four for Hatt and three for Julian. Koralewski and O'Dowd each took two shots. Sophomore keeper Sarah Westen (Grand Ledge) played the entire game, facing 14 shots and making five saves.
Olivet finishes the MIAA regular season with a 3-5 record and will be the No. 6 seed in the league tournament. The Comets will travel to play No. 3 seed Alma College Saturday in a first round game at noon.
