Five different players scored a goal, as the Olivet College women's soccer team defeated Rochester College, 5-0, today at the Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac.
Freshman Faith Hatt (Rochester Hills/Rochester Adams) scored the first goal just 2:55 into the game when her shot ricocheted off the cross piece and dropped into the mouth of the goal. Freshman Lizzy Julian (Mattawan) tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 22nd minute. Assists on the goal were given to senior Cori Barrera (East Lansing) and sophomore Ashley Buyce (Portage/Central).
Senior Katie Wolf (Marshall) scored her first goal of the 2008 season in the 28th minute. After the Rochester defense was not able to clear a corner kick, Wolf sent an angled shot that went from the left side of the box into the back, right corner of the goal. In the 35th minute, Buyce sent a hard shot into the goal from 10 yards out, and Wolf earned the assist on the goal.
Sophomore Christine Moulton (Royal Oak/Shrine) added to the score with a goal in the 40th minute. She sent a shot into the goal after receiving a pass from sophomore Katie Koralewski (Sterling Heights/Stevenson). There was no scoring the second half.
Olivet dominated the stat sheet with advantages in shots (27-6), shots-on-goal (18-5) and corner kicks (9-5). Hatt had a team-high six shots, while Barrera and Julian each took five shots. Sophomores Megan Colby (Cedar Springs) and Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/Lakeshore) combined for the shutout in goal, playing the first and second half, respectively.
The Comets will open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Saturday when they host Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at noon.
