The Olivet College women’s soccer team shut out Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Tri-State (Ind.) University, 5-0, this afternoon in Angola, Ind. With the win, the Comets have won two straight games via shutout.

Olivet (2-3, 2-1 MIAA) held a 3-0 halftime lead. Junior Stacey Stickney (St. Joseph) scored the first goal in the 20th minute. Sophomore Abbie Utberg (Commerce/Walled Lake Central) put the ball into the net off a corner kick by senior Katharine Hertrich (Howell) at the 38:28 mark. Freshman Megan Reardon (Macomb/Chippewa Valley) tallied the last goal with 50 seconds left before halftime.
In the second half, sophomore Shannah Fisher (Delton-Kellogg) scored two goals in a span of just under eight minutes. Sophomore Chrissy Jamieson (Laingsburg) was credited with an assist on her first goal.
For the game, the Comets had a 23-13 advantage over the Thunder (2-3, 0-2 MIAA) in shots, including a 15-7 edge in shots-on-goal. Fisher led the way with six shots. Junior Kristin Dickinson (Cadillac) played in goal and made seven saves.
Olivet continues MIAA play Saturday, Sept. 17, when it hosts Kalamazoo College in the first game of a women's-men's soccer doubleheader. The women's game will begin at noon, followed by the men's game against Manchester (Ind.) College.
