The Comets (1-3, 1-1 MIAA) led 1-0 at halftime on a breakaway goal by freshman Cori Barrera (East Lansing) in the 41st minute. At the 66:52 mark, Olivet took a 2-0 lead when junior Stacey Stickney (St. Joseph) scored a goal off a free kick from 35 yards. The Comets closed the scoring in the 70th minute as sophomore Shannah Fisher (Delton-Kellogg) found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore Natalie Lopez (Holland/West Ottawa).
Olivet had a 19-5 advantage in shots. Barrera led the Comets with five shots, followed by senior Samantha Dyke (Hudsonville) and sophomore Chrissy Jamieson (Laingsburg) with three apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Bre Bath-Simonsen (Mason) made five saves.
The Comets will travel to play Tri-State (Ind.) University next Wednesday, Sept. 14. Game time is 4 p.m. EST.
