The University of Olivet wrestling team, 10 individuals receive NWCA academic honors
MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released its academic awards for the 2024-25 season, and The University of Olivet wrestling program is well represented. The Comets have received the Scholar All-America Team award and 10 individuals have been named Scholar All-Americans.
Olivet was selected to the Scholar All-America Team after posting the 23rd-highest grade point average among all NCAA Division III wrestling programs. The Comets' GPA was 3.540. The GPA is an average cumulative GPA for the 10 wrestlers who competed at the NCAA Regional Tournament and two at-large wrestlers.
The 10 individuals who were named NWCA Scholar All-American team are seniors Robert Davids, Boe Eckman, Ramiro Guerrero, Tyler Herrema, Benyamin Kamali, Emmett Kettel, Kody Krupp and Jay Shaull, and sophomores Mason Knight and Kyan Larson.
Herrema is now a four-time NWCA Scholar All-American. Davids and Guerrero are three-time selections. Eckman, Kettel and Krupp are two-time honorees, and the other four are earning the honor for the first time. The 10 wrestlers are among the 464 individuals on this year's list of honorees. Since the inception of the NWCA Scholar All-American award in 1984, 85 Olivet student-athletes have combined to earn 160 total awards.
Overall, the Comets have received Scholar All-America Team status 23 times since 1998. Of the 23 times, Olivet has ranked in the top 25 every year except once. The 10 individual Scholar All-Americans match the 2019-20 season for the most honorees in one year. Herrema is the fourth four-time NWCA Scholar All-American in school history.
