Back on top! No. 18 UOlivet wrestling beats Adrian, 24-15, to secure 15th MIAA championship in school history

ADRIAN, Mich. – The University of Olivet wrestling team defeated Adrian College, 24-15, tonight at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center to secure the 15th Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship in school history and the first since 2022.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets started the match with a major decision win at 125 pounds. The Bulldogs answered with a technical fall win at 133 pounds to take a 5-4 lead. Olivet responded with a major decision win at 141 pounds and minor decision at 149 pounds to go up 11-5.
- Adrian closed the gap to a point with another tech fall at 157 pounds. The Comets stretched their lead to 18-10 with an overtime win at 165 pounds and major decision win at 174 pounds. The Bulldogs claimed a technical fall win at 184 pounds to make the score 18-15. Olivet closed out the match with back-to-back minor decisions at 197 and 285 pounds.
FOR THE COMETS
- At 125 pounds, senior Benyamin Kamali posted a 10-2 major decision.
- At 141 pounds, senior Dylan Phelps won an 11-2 major decision.
- At 149 pounds, senior Tyler Herrema scored a takedown in the first period and hung for a 4-1 win.
- At 165 pounds, sophomore Juwan Vines battled throughout his match and recorded a takedown early in overtime to win 12-9.
- At 174 pounds, senior Jay Shaull earned a 17-4 major decision.
- At 197 pounds, senior Kody Krupp scrambled his way to a 10-6 win.
- At 285 pounds, senior Boe Eckman shutout his opponent, 6-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Olivet's MIAA titles were in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1984, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2025.
- The Comets have won the most MIAA wrestling championships.
- Tonight's match was the 35th all-time meeting between Adrian and Olivet.
