UOlivet drops two matches at UChicago Triangular

CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Olivet wrestling team faced off against two non-conference foes at the University of Chicago (Ill.) Triangular this afternoon inside the Ratner Center. The Comets fell to No. 9-ranked North Central (Ill.) College, 20-18, and the host Maroons, 28-12.
VS. NORTH CENTRAL
- The Cardinals and Comets split the 10 bouts, and the outcome came down to the winner of the 285-pound bout.
- At 125 pounds, senior Benyamin Kamali defeated Davion Johnson, 19-4, for a technical fall win.
- North Central won a major decision at 133 pounds and an overtime decision at 141 pounds to go up 7-5.
- At 149 pounds, senior Tyler Herrema won a 13-4 major decision and at 157 pounds, senior Ramiro Guerrero earned a 10-5 decision to put the Comets back on top by five team points, 12-7.
- The Cardinals closed the gap to a point (12-11) with a 13-3 major decision victory at 165 pounds.
- At 174 pounds, senior Jay Shaull won 13-11 and make the score 15-11.
- North Central evened the score at 15-15 with a 15-10 major decision win at 184 pounds.
- At 197 pounds, senior Kody Krupp scored a takedown late in the third period to win, 10-8, and give the lead back to the Comets, 18-15.
- The Cardinals won the match with a 15-0 technical fall by the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 285 pounds.
VS. CHICAGO
- The team score was tied at 12-12 before the Maroons won the last three bouts (one major decision and two pins) to win the match, 28-12.
- Kamali got the Comets off to an early 6-0 lead when he pinned his 125-pound opponent in 50 seconds.
- Chicago earned minor decision wins at 133 and 141 pounds to level the score.
- The Comets and Maroons split the next four bouts for the 12-12 score.
- Herema posted a 13-7 win at 149 pounds, followed by a win by Chicago.
- Sophomore Kyan Larson earned a 9-5 victory at 165 points, followed by another win for the Maroons to even the score and start their 19-0 run to end the match.

- Olivet is off until January 10-11 when it competes at the 2025 National Wrestling Coaches Association Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships, held inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
