Wrestling: Five Comets place in top six at Alma Open

ALMA, Mich. – Five student-athletes from The University of Olivet wrestling team finished in top six of their weight class today at the Alma College Open today inside the Art Smith Arena.
- No team scores were kept for the open tournament.
- Five Comets placed in the top six and five others won at least one match.
- Junior Robert Davids had a 4-1 record to finish third in the 141-pound bracket. After receiving a bye in the first round, he pinned his opponent in the quarterfinals before losing 4-1 in the semifinals. Davids bounced back with a pin in his first consolation bracket match and then won by medical forfeit in the third-place match.
- Sophomore Darren McLeod was 5-1 to place third in the 149-pound bracket. He earned a bye in the first round before dropping a 15-0 technical fall match in the quarterfinals. McLeod rebounded with four wins in the consolation bracket. Three of the wins were technical falls (15-0, 15-0 and 16-1).
- Sophomore Isaiah Mullins finished fourth at 125 pounds. He had three wins, with his losses coming against unattached wrestlers from Central Michigan University and Michigan State University.
- Freshman Juwan Vines placed fourth at 165 pounds. After losing in the first round, he won four straight matches to reach the third-place match.
- Freshman Aden Baynes had a 4-2 record to earn a fifth-place finish at 141 pounds. Three of the wins were first-period pins at 1:29, 2:59 and 0:23.
- Olivet resumes its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule next Wednesday, January 24, when it travels to Angola, Indiana, for a dual against Trine (Ind.) University. Action from Hershey Hall gets under way at 7 p.m.
