Wrestling: Olivet opens MIAA action with 38-10 win over Alma

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet wrestling team started its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule with a 38-10 win over Alma College tonight inside the Cutler Event Center.

- Records: Olivet 8-7 overall, 1-0 MIAA; Alma 3-6 overall, 0-1 MIAA
- The Comets won 8-of-10 bouts.
- Olivet scored bonus points in seven wins, with two major decisions, three technical falls and two pins.
- The Comets outscored the Scots, 108-56, in total match points.
- At 125 pounds, junior Emmett Kettel won a 14-4 major decision.
- At 133 pounds, sophomore Emilio Cabrera earned a 14-3 major decision win.
- At 141 pounds, senior Dylan Phelps scored six takedowns along with a three-point near-fall to post a 21-5 technical fall with 16 seconds left in the opening period.
- At 149 pounds, junior Tyler Herrema had five takedowns, an escape and three-point near-fall to record a 16-1 technical fall just six seconds into the third period.
- At 157 pounds, junior Ramiro Guerrero went down 3-0 to start his bout. He quickly got out, followed by 18 more points, including a three-point near-fall at the first-period horn to win a 19-4 technical fall.
- At 165 pounds, senior Gabe Guerrero lost 16-1.
- At 174 pounds, senior Mitchell Reynolds scored a takedown late in the first period to propel him to a 9-2 win.
- At 184 pounds, sophomore Gideon Loewen suffered a 21-4 technical fall loss.
- At 197 pounds, junior Kody Krupp tallied a takedown and quickly took his opponent to his back for the pin at one minute and eight seconds.
- At 285 pounds, senior Donovan King capped the match with a pin at the exact same time as Krupp at 1:08.
- A small group of Olivet wrestlers will compete Saturday at the Alma College Open.
