Wrestling: Olivet posts 2-2 record at Kalahari Duals

SANDUSKY, Ohio – The University of Olivet wrestling team posted a 2-2 record at the 2023 Kalahari Duals, hosted by Heidelberg (Ohio) University today at the Kalahari Resorts. The Comets defeated Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College, 43-9, and Waynesburg (Pa.) University, 46-8, but fell to Augustana (Ill.) College, 31-14, and Delaware Valley (Pa.) University, 33-12.
- The Comets won three bouts against the Vikings.
- Junior Robert Davids won a 16-0 technical fall at 141 pounds.
- Junior Jay Shaull posted a 15-12 decision at 157 pounds.
- At 174 pounds, senior Mitchell Reynolds pinned his opponent with seven seconds left in the first period.
- The Comets scored bonus points in seven of their eight wins.
- Junior Emmett Kettel started the match with a third-period pin at 125 pounds.
- Sophomore Emilio Cabrera pinned his opponent right before the buzzer sounded to end the first period of the 133-pound bout.
- Senior Dylan Phelps recorded a 17-2 technical fall at 141 pounds.
- Junior Ramiro Guerrero had a quick pin at 42 seconds of the 157-pound bout.
- Freshman Juwan Vines scored early and often in a 26-7 technical fall win at 165 pounds.
- Junior Aiden Carr won by pin with 40 seconds left in the third period of the 174-pound bout.
- Sophomore Gideon Loewen eked out a 9-8 decision at 184 pounds.
- Junior Boe Eckman capped Olivet's win with a 1:22 pin at 285 pounds.
- The Comets had three wins.
- Phelps edged his opponent, 5-4, at 141 pounds.
- Junior Tyler Herrema used a takedown in overtime to win 9-6 at 149 pounds.
- Eckman posted a pin in the second period of the 285-pound bout.
- Olivet won 8-of-10 bouts, scoring bonus points in all eight wins.
- Freshman Sam Schreiber at 125 pounds (2:44), sophomore Darren McLeod at 149 pounds (0:50), senior Gabe Guerrero at 165 pounds (1:29), senior Hunter Caister at 197 pounds (1:22) and Eckman at 285 pounds (0:22) each had first-period pins.
- Junior Stuart Donlan at 133 pounds and Davids at 141 pounds earned forfeit wins.
- Ramiro Guerrero shutout his opponent, 10-0, at 157 pounds.
- The Comets are now off until January 5-6 when they wrestle at the 2024 National Wrestling Coaches Association Multi-Divisional National Dual Meet Championships. The duals are at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
