Wrestling: Five Comets place at MCC Ben McMullen Open

MUSKEGON, Mich. – Five members of The University of Olivet wrestling team finished in the top four of their respective weight class at the Muskegon Community College Ben McMullen Open. The open tournament was unscored.
- Junior Ramiro Guerrero was second at 157 pounds. He started the day with three straight pins (1:14, 2:15, 3:16) before getting pinned in the championship match.
- Sophomore Gideon Loewen finished second at 184 pounds. He won back-to-back overtime matches, 13-10 and 7-4, to reach the championship match, falling by a 17-2 score.
- Junior Boe Eckman placed third at 285 pounds. He pinned his first opponent before losing to 20-7 in the quarterfinals. Eckman bounced back to win twice by fall (1:02, 0:13) before pinning his teammate in the third-place match.
- Sophomore Darren McLeod posted a fourth-place finish at 149 pounds. He won 3-0 in the first round and earned a pin at 5:45 in the second round. McLeod lost an 8-5 decision in the semifinals but rebounded to win his next match, 10-6. In the third-place match, he lost a major decision, 11-3.
- Freshman Landen Roe was fourth at 285 pounds. He pinned his first opponent with three seconds left in the first period. Roe dropped a 2-1 decision in the quarterfinals. He won by forfeit, fall (0:53) and major decision (10-0) before losing the third-place match to Eckman.
- Freshman Kyan Larson recorded a 4-2 record at 165 pounds. Three of the wins were major decisions (15-7, 11-2, 14-5).
- Olivet competes at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational next Saturday, November 11.
