Wrestling team in sixth-place after first day NCAA Division III Central Regional, King to wrestle in semifinals
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Olivet College wrestling team is in sixth-place after day one of the 2023 NCAA Division III Central Regional, hosted by Case Western Reserve (Ohio) University and inside the Veale Center. Junior Donovan King is the lone Comet alive in the championship bracket after winning his first two matches.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Olivet College wrestling team is in sixth-place after day one of the 2023 NCAA Division III Central Regional, hosted by Case Western Reserve (Ohio) University and inside the Veale Center.
- Junior Donovan King is the lone Comet alive in the 285-pound championship bracket, as he had two wins. His wins were a first-period pin against Rigoberto Villa from Defiance (Ohio) College and 8-2 decision over Gabriel Martinez from Heidelberg (Ohio) University. King needs a win tomorrow morning in the semifinals against Logan Painter from Ohio Northern University to secure a trip to the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships.
- Six other Olivet wrestlers are in the consolation bracket and have guaranteed a top-eight finish. They are junior Dylan Phelps at 141 pounds, sophomore Tyler Herrema at 149 pounds, sophomore Ramiro Guerrero at 157 pounds, senior Kam Bush at 165 pounds, junior Justin Carnahan at 184 pounds and senior Hiram Robinson at 197 pounds. To qualify for the NCAA Championships, each will need to finish third.
- Olivet has totaled 55 points. Ohio Northern University sits on top of the team standings with 92.5 points. Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University and Wabash (Ind.) College are tied for second with 88.5 points.
- Action continues tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. The top three finishers in the 10 weight classes will earn a trip to the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships March 10-11, at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Virginia.
