Wrestling team sits 15th after day one of Pete Willson Invitational
WHEATON, Ill. – The Olivet College wrestling team is in 15th-place after day one of the 81st Annual Wheaton (Ill.) College/Pete Willson Invitational at King Arena. Four Comets are still alive in the consolation. Each wrestler needs one win tomorrow to guarantee a top-eight finish.

WHEATON, Ill. – The Olivet College wrestling team is in 15th-place after day one of the 81st Annual Wheaton (Ill.) College/Pete Willson Invitational at King Arena. Four Comets are still alive in the consolation. Each wrestler needs one win tomorrow to guarantee a top-eight finish.
- The field consists of 32 NCAA Division III schools, including eight in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association Tournament rankings.
- North Central (Ill.) College is on top of the team leaderboard with 75 points,
- The Comets have totaled 28 points and four wrestlers are still alive in the consolation bracket.
- At 165 pounds, senior Kam Bush pinned his first two opponents in the first period before suffering a 7-5 loss in the quarterfinals. He will face Dejon Glaster from Millikin (Ill.) University in his next match.
- At 157 pounds, sophomore Ramiro Guerrero lost his first match but bounced back to win his next three in the consolation bracket. He had a pin before a two medical forfeit win and then ended the day with a 13-9 decision victory. Guerrero will wrestle Zack Schneider from University of Wis.-Eau Claire tomorrow.
- At 141 pounds, sophomore Robert Davids dropped a 3-2 decision in his first match. He then received two medical forfeit wins to advance to face Dustin Smith from Roanoke (Va.) College tomorrow.
- At 285 pounds, freshman Luke Cortez opened the day with a 5-3 loss. He came back with back-to-back pins at 3:40 and 1:22 before using a reversal in the final minute of the match to win 5-3. Cortez wrestles Daniel Skold from Augustana (Ill.) College tomorrow.
- 125: Emmett Kettel – 1-2 record – pinned Julian Long (Nebraska Wesleyan) in 3:27, lost 7-3 to Jack Stanley (Mount Union), lost 14-6 to Jase Van Pelt (Cornell, Iowa).
- 133: Emilio Cabrera – 0-2 record – pinned by Trevor Boryla (Augustana, Ill.) in 2:31, lost 5-4 decision to Brandon D'Egido (Heidelberg, Ohio).
- 141: Robert Davids – 2-1 record – lost 3-2 to Cade Lundeen (Concordia-Moorhead, Minn.), won by medical forfeit over Cameron Deville (Messiah, Pa.), won by medical forfeit over Vincent Menozzi (Chicago, Ill.).
- 149: Jay Shaull – 1-2 record – pinned by Jacob Prunty (Concordia-Moorhead, Minn.) in 5:00, won 22-3 technical fall over Frank DiMarco (John Carroll, Ohio), pinned by Darese Sparkman (Mount Union, Ohio) in 1:05.
- 157: Ramiro Guerrero – 3-1 record – lost 14-3 to Michael Smith (Milwaukee School of Engineering, Wis.), pinned Christian Hite (Ferrum, Va.) in 2:35, won by medical forfeit over Wade Hodges (Wis.-Whitewater), won 13-9 over Tyler Bents (Concordia-Moorhead, Minn.).
- 165: Kam Bush – 2-1 record – pinned Skyler Cowgill (Mount St. Joseph, Ohio) in 2:08, pinned David Reid (Roanoke, Va.) in 1:44, lost 7-5 to Ryan Vedner (Wis.-Whitewater).
- 174: Mitchell Reynolds – 0-2 record – lost 4-2 TB-1 to Caiden Rodgers (John Carroll, Ohio), pinned by Casey Aikman (North Central, Ill.) in 4:22.
- 184: Gideon Loewen – 0-2 record – pinned by Ruben Vasquez (Concordia, Wis.) in 3:54, pinned by Nick Chaddock (Mount Union, Ohio) in 6:11.
- 197: Hunter Caister – 1-2 record – lost 10-4 to Peyton Smith (Concordia, Wis.), won 5-3 over Jakub Maciorow (Wis.-Whitewater), lost 9-3 to Ben DePrest (Ohio).
- 285: Luke Cortez – 3-1 record – lost 5-3 to Ben Gunderson (Wis.-Stevens Point), pinned Riley Howard (Wheaton, Ill.) in 3:40, pinned Austin Ryder (Mount Union, Ohio) in 1:22, won 5-3 over Hayden Benner (Messiah, Pa.).
