Eight wrestlers place in top six at Alma Open
ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team sent a group of its non-starters to compete today at the Alma College Open. Eight wrestlers finished in the top six of their respective in the unscored tournament.

ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team sent a group of its non-starters to compete today at the Alma College Open. Eight wrestlers finished in the top six of their respective in the unscored tournament.
- Sophomore Jay Shaull was second in the 149-pound bracket. After winning his first match by injury default, he pinned Nate Young from Mott Community College in the semifinals. Shaull fell to Anthony Gonzalez from Rochester University, 14-6, in the championship match.
- Senior Jerry Hall was the runner-up in the 157-pound bracket. He started the day with back-to-back pins at 4:20 over Anthony Ward and 3:26 over Elijah Kidder from Grand Valley State University. Hall then won 15-0 over Parker Holt from Muskegon Community College before losing 12-2 to Trenton Wachter from Central Michigan University in the championship match.
- Freshman Jacob Kasner placed second in the 165-pound bracket. He won his first two matches by injury default and medical forfeit. Kasner defeated a teammate in the semifinals, 5-3, before dropping a 4-0 decision to Nicholas Marienfeld from Central Michigan University in the finals.
- Also, in the 149-pound bracket, freshman Darren McLeod took third. After losing his first match 8-6, he rebounded with three wins (3-2, 14-0 and 6-3) in the consolation bracket.
- Also, in the 157-pound bracket, senior Jarrett Thorne finished fourth with a 3-2 record. Two of his wins were pins.
- Also, in the 165-pound bracket, freshman Jonathen Davis was fourth. He pinned his first three opponents before suffering the 5-3 loss in the semifinals. Davis won his first consolation bracket match, 8-7, but fell in the third-place match, 10-7.
- Freshman Emilio Cabrera placed fifth in the 133-pound bracket.
- Sophomore Kody Krupp finished sixth in the 197-pound bracket. Two of his three wins on the day were pins in the first period.
- The Comets return to the mat Tuesday, January 24, at Adrian College, starting at 7 p.m.
