Wrestling team has 1-1 record at NWCA National Dual Meet Championships
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Olivet College wrestling team posted a 1-1 record to finish in 19th-place at the 2023 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships, held at the Kentucky Exposition Center. After dropping a 45-9 decision to Coe (Iowa) College, the Comets won a 27-16 match over Averett (Va.) University.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Olivet College wrestling team posted a 1-1 record to finish in 19th-place at the 2023 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships, held at the Kentucky Exposition Center. After dropping a 45-9 decision to Coe (Iowa) College, the Comets won a 27-16 match over Averett (Va.) University.
- The Kohawks won eight-of-10 bouts.
- Senior Jerry Hall picked-up a 5-3 decision in the 157-pound bout. Two takedowns in the third period were the difference in the bout.
- In a rematch from the quarterfinals at the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships, junior Donovan King pinned Kaleb Reeves. King got the takedown eight seconds into the bout and worked on top until he got the pin with 48 seconds left in the opening period.
- The Comets earned wins in six of the 10 bouts, scoring bonus points in five.
- At 133 pounds, sophomore Stuart Donlan scored takedowns in the first and second periods, and a reversal in the third period to hang on for a 6-5 win.
- Sophomores Robert Davids and Jay Shaull put Olivet ahead 11-4 with back-to-back major decisions, 12-2 and 11-0, at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively.
- Averett answered with major decisions at 157 and 165 pounds to take the lead back 12-11.
- Senior Owen Guilford gave the lead back to the Comets when he won 13-1 at 174 pounds.
- The Cougars came back with another major decision win at 184 pounds to gain the lead back in the team score race, 16-15.
- Olivet went ahead 21-16 when sophomore Kody Krupp pinned his man with 44 ticks left in the 197-pound bout.
- King capped the Comets' win with a 55-second pin.
- The Comets host Trine (Ind.) University next Thursday, January 12, at 7 p.m.
