Wrestling team splits Friday matches at NWCA Multi-Division National Duals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Olivet College wrestling team split two matches today at day one of the 2023 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships. The Comets fell to Castleton (Vt.) University, 29-12, in their first match before bouncing back to beat Wilkes (Pa.) University, 25-15.

The Comets fell to Castleton (Vt.) University, 29-12, in their first match before bouncing back to beat Wilkes (Pa.) University, 25-15.
- The Spartans won seven of the 10 bouts.
- At 157 pounds, sophomore Ramiro Guerrero came from behind to win a 13-6 decision. Dowing. Down 6-3, he scored a reversal and a pair of four-point near falls in the third period to win the bout, 13-6.
- At 165 pounds, senior Kam Bush hung for an 8-6 win.
- At 285 pounds, junior Donovan King recorded a pin 29 seconds into the second period.
- Olivet won seven of the 10 bouts.
- At 125 pounds, freshman Isaiah Mullins posted a narrow 2-0 victory. The only two points of the bout were an escape to start the third period and the riding time point after he rode his opponent for the entire second period.
- At 133 pounds, freshman Emilio Cabrera used four takedowns to help win an 11-4 decision.
- At 149 pounds, sophomore Tyler Herrema won an 8-0 major decision, with three takedowns, an escape and riding time point.
- At 157 pounds, Guerrero claimed an 11-10 win, scoring an escape in the final seconds to win the bout.
- At 165 pounds, Bush earned a 12-6 win. His 12 points consisted of four takedowns, a reversal and two-point near-fall.
- At 174 pounds, senior Owen Guilford led 7-0 before allowing a late takedown to win 8-2.
- At 184 pounds, junior Justin Carnahan pinned his opponent in 55 seconds.
- The Colonels won the final two bouts by fall.
- The Comets face Coe (Iowa) College tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
