Wrestling team posts 2-3 record at Comet Duals
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team welcomes eight other schools to the Cutler Event Center for the Comet Duals. The varsity team defeated University of Mount Union (Ohio), 28-12, and Muskegon Community College, 29-11, but lost to University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 22-15; John Carroll (Ohio) University, 24-21; and Ohio Northern University, 37-12.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team welcomes eight other schools to the Cutler Event Center for the Comet Duals. The varsity team defeated University of Mount Union (Ohio), 28-12, and Muskegon Community College, 29-11, but lost to University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 22-15; John Carroll (Ohio) University, 24-21; and Ohio Northern University, 37-12.
- Olivet won six of the 10 bouts, scoring bonus points four.
- The Purple Raiders led 6-0 after minor decision victories at 125 and 133 pounds.
- Junior Dylan Phelps posted a 13-4 major decision at 141 pounds and sophomore Jay Shaull won 7-2 at 149 pounds to put the Comets ahead 7-6.
- After Mount Union took the lead back with a 5-0 win at 157 pounds, senior Zach Potter gave the lead back to Olivet for good when he edged out his opponent, 10-8, at 165 pounds.
- Senior Owen Guilford pinned his opponent 48 seconds into the final period of the 174-pound bout to make the score 16-9.
- Sophomore Kody Krupp earned a forfeit win at 197 pounds.
- Junior Donovan King capped Olivet's victory with a 31-second pin at 285 pounds.
- The Comets won just four bouts against the Pioneers.
- Freshman Emilio Cabrera scored the lone bonus point win, as he pinned his opponent just 22 seconds into the second period of the 133-pound bout.
- The other three wins were minor decisions – 6-4 by senior Kam Bush at 165 pounds, 11-4 by junior Justin Carnahan at 184 pounds and 5-4 by King at 285 pounds.
- Olivet posted wins in seven bouts, with four being for bonus points.
- Junior Spencer Murphy claimed a forfeit win at 141 pounds.
- Sophomore Bo Eckman recorded a first-period pin at 1:46 of the 285-pound bout.
- Junior Christian Lenon at 149 pounds and freshman Jonathen Davis at 165 pounds earned 18-5 and 12-2 major decision victories, respectively.
- Minor decision wins were 5-0 by sophomore Emmett Kettel at 125 pounds, 6-0 by senior Jarrett Thorne at 157 pounds 6-3 by junior Mitchell Reynolds at 174 pounds.
- Olivet and John Carroll split the 10 bouts. The Comets won one bout by fall, three by major decision and one by minor decision. The Blue Streaks had two pins, one technical fall, one major decision and one minor decision.
- Freshman Isaiah Mullins posted Olivet's pin at the 2:02 mark of the 125-pound bout.
- The three major decision wins for the Comets were 10-0 by sophomore Robert Davids at 141 pounds, 16-3 by sophomore Tyler Herrema at 149 pounds and 14-1 by King at 285 pounds.
- Reynolds walked away with a come-from-behind 4-3 win at 174 pounds.
- The Comets had just two wins against the Polar Bears, but both were pins.
- Guilford pinned his man in the first period of the 174-pound bout.
- King recorded his fall 28 seconds into the middle period of the 285-pound bout.
- Olivet returns to the mats Saturday, December 3, when it participates in the Ohio Northern Polar Bear Invitational in Ada, Ohio.
