Olivet College wrestling team, six individuals earn NWCA academic honors
MANHEIM, Pa. – The Olivet College wrestling team along with six individuals have earned academic honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for the 2021-22 season.
MANHEIM, Pa. – The Olivet College wrestling team along with six individuals have earned academic honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for the 2021-22 season.
The Comets were named a Scholar All-America Team after posting the fifth-highest grade point average among all NCAA Division III wrestling programs. Olivet's GPA was 3.755.
The six individuals who were selected the NWCA Scholar All-American team are senior Dylan Briggs, sophomore Justin Carnahan, junior Owen Guilford, freshman Tyler Herrema, senior Reese Wallis and senior Dominick Wilson.
Wallis is now only the second wrestler in school history to be a four-time NWCA Scholar All-American. Briggs, Guilford, and Wilson are now three-time selections. Carnahan and Herrema are earning the honor for the first time. The six wrestlers are among the 326 individuals representing 88 institutions on this year's list of honorees. Since the inception of the NWCA Scholar All-American award in 1984, 73 Olivet student-athletes have combined to earn 135 total awards.
The 3.755 team GPA is the highest in school history. The previous high was 3.670 in 2013. Overall, the Comets have earned Scholar All-America Team status 20 times since 1998. Of the 20 times, Olivet has ranked in the top five 13 times.
