Wrestling team tied for fifth-place after day one NCAA DIII Central Regional
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team is tied for fifth-place after day one of the 2022 NCAA Division III Central Regional, hosted by Adrian College and taking place at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center. Two Comets have advanced to tomorrow’s semifinals and four more Olivet wrestlers are still alive in the consolation bracket. All six Comets are also guaranteed a top-eight finish.

Two Comets have advanced to tomorrow's semifinals and four more Olivet wrestlers are still alive in the consolation bracket. All six Comets are also guaranteed a top-eight finish.
- Senior 165-pounder Dylan Briggs and sophomore 285-pounder Donovan King are in tomorrow's semifinals and with a victory would advance to the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships.
- Sophomore 133-pounder Dylan Phelps, senior 141-pounder Reese Wallis, freshman 157-pounder Ramiro Guerrero and junior 174-pounder Owen Guilford are battling for a third-place finish and the final spot to the national championships.
- Olivet has 58 points to share fifth-place with Heidelberg (Ohio) University. Wabash (Ind.) College leads the 20-team field with 102 points. John Carroll (Ohio) University is second with 93 points, followed by Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University in third with 83 points and Ohio Northern University in fourth with 72 points.
- Briggs has posted a 2-0 record, with an 11-2 major decision in the first round and 6-1 decision in the quarterfinals. He will face Patrick McGraw from John Carroll in the semifinals. Briggs defeated McGraw, 6-3, earlier this season in the semifinals at the Trine Invitational.
- King won both of his matches via first-period pins. He will wrestle Jace Grossman from Heidelberg in the semifinals.
- 133: Dylan Phelps – 2-1 record – 12-2 major decision over Caleb Cline (Alma), 5-0 loss to David Massey (Mount Union), 8-6 decision over Joshua Stephenson (Manchester).
- 141: Reese Wallis – 2-1 record – pinned Garrett Simmons (Wilmington) in 0:16, 2-1 loss to Jacob Reed (Ohio Northern), pinned Max Beard (Ohio Wesleyan) in 1:58.
- 149: Hunter Murphy – 2-2 record – pinned Kaelon Lawson-West (Hiram) in 0:52, pinned by Mitchell Arch (Case Western) in 3:47, pinned Tyler Bolenbaugh (Alma) in 2:25, 6-4 loss to Bryce Wittman (Ohio Wesleyan).
- 157: Ramiro Guerrero – 3-1 record – 14-9 decision over Carson Pottenger (Heidelberg), pinned Patrick Kelley (Wilmington) in 1:23, lost 11-5 decision to Luke Reicosky (John Carroll), pinned Caleb Blake (Ohio Wesleyan) in 3:49.
- 165: Dylan Briggs – 2-0 record – 11-2 major decision over Alejandro Castro (Defiance), 6-1 decision over Cale Callahan (Otterbein).
- 174: Owen Guilford – 2-1 record – won by injury default over David Reinhart (Mount Union), pinned by Donovan Palmer (Baldwin Wallace) in 6:12, 16-1 technical fall over William Vernier (Alma).
- 184: Justin Carnahan – 0-2 record – 11-9 loss to Aidan Gassell (Case Western), pinned by Owen McDaniel (Albion) in 4:20.
- 197: Kody Krupp – 0-2 record – 14-6 loss to Nathaniel Armstrong (Mount St. Joseph), 10-0 loss to Warren Gentile (Mount Union).
- 285: Donovan King – 2-0 record – pinned Brody Miskimon (Alma) in 0:49, pinned Brandon Thomas (Otterbein) in 1:55.
