Briggs garners MIAA Wrestler of the Week honors

FREELAND, Mich. – Senior Dylan Briggs has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Wrestler of the Week. He is being honored for the second time this season.
Wrestling at 165 pounds, Briggs posted a perfect 4-0 record to help the Comets secure the 2022 MIAA Championship with a 4-0 record yesterday at Trine (Ind.) University. His wins were a pin at 4:41 over Brenden Kurtze from Alma College, 10-3 decision over Zach Altman from Adrian College, 9-3 decision over Chris Mills from Albion College and 15-0 technical fall over Ethan Nash from Trine. Briggs dominated the four opponents, outscoring them 49-6. All six points he allowed were escape points.
For the season, Briggs has a 19-2 record. Of the 19 wins, he has scored bonus points in 11 (five pins, four tech falls and two major decisions). The two losses were a one-point decision (8-7) and two-point decision (3-1).
The Comets are back in action Saturday at the Mid-States Invitational, hosted by Ohio Northern University. After that, Olivet competes at the 2022 NCAA Division III Regional meet Friday and Saturday, February 25-26, at Adrian College.
