Wrestling team bows out of NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals with two losses
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Olivet College wrestling team dropped two matches today at the 2022 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Divisional National Duals, held inside the Kentucky Exposition Center. The Comets fell to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University, 35-12, and Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University 26-12.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Olivet College wrestling team dropped two matches today at the 2022 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Divisional National Duals, held inside the Kentucky Exposition Center. The Comets fell to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University, 35-12, and Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University 26-12.
- The Comets earned wins in two bouts.
- At 149 pounds, senior Hunter Murphy pinned his opponent in one minute and 47 seconds.
- At 285 pounds, senior Dominick Wilson received a forfeit victory.
- Wrestling for the first time this season, senior Cameron Mahlich suffered a 5-2 decision loss at 125 pounds.
- Senior Dylan Briggs lost for the first time this season, a 3-1 decision at 165 pounds.
- Olivet won three of the 10 bouts. Five of the Comet losses were minor decisions.
- At 125 pounds, Mahlich won an 8-2 decision. His eight points were three takedowns and a reversal.
- At 165 pounds, Briggs posted a 6-2 decision victory. The difference in the match was a reversal and two-point near-fall in the final minute of the bout.
- At 285 pounds, sophomore Donovan King pinned his opponent in one minute and seven seconds. With the win, he improves to 7-0 on the season, with all seven wins being falls. Six of the seven pins happened in the first period.
- Minor decision losses were by sophomore Dylan Phelps (9-4 at 141 pounds), Murphy (7-2 at 149 pounds), junior Jeff Leach (5-3 at 157 pounds), senior Liam Kinjorski (12-8 at 174 pounds) and sophomore Justin Carnahan (4-2 at 184 pounds).
- The Comets are back in action Sunday, January 16, when they compete at the 2022 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Individual Championships. Trine (Ind.) University is the host school.
