Wrestling team loses to Baldwin Wallace and Michigan State
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team dropped a pair of non-conference dual matches this afternoon inside the Cutler Event Center. The Comets fell to No.11-ranked Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University, 28-15, and NCAA Division I foe Michigan State University, 41-0.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team dropped a pair of non-conference dual matches this afternoon inside the Cutler Event Center. The Comets fell to No.11-ranked Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University, 28-15, and NCAA Division I foe Michigan State University, 41-0.
- Olivet, ranked No. 18 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, won four of the 10 bouts.
- Senior Reese Wallis won a thrilling 2-1 decision over Zachery Anderson at 141 pounds. After a scoreless first period, Wallis chose bottom to the start the second period and got out to earn the escape point. Anderson went to bottom to start the third period. Wallis rode him long enough to accumulate 1:01 of riding time to earn the extra point at the end of the bout.
- Senior Dylan Briggs used a big third period to secure an 8-2 decision over Dalton Leightner at 165 pounds. Leading 2-0 at the start of the period, Briggs chose the neutral position. He scored a quick takedown before Leightner got a reversal to make the score 4-2. Briggs escaped for a point before Leightner was hit for a second stall to give Briggs another point. Briggs secured the win with a takedown in the final 30 seconds.
- At 174 pounds, junior Owen Guilford pinned Brian Palmer in the first period at the 1:41 mark.
- Olivet's final three team points came at 285 pounds, where senior Dominick Wilson won 3-1 in overtime over Jarod Miller. Both wrestlers earned an escape point when they chose to start in the down position to start the second and third periods. Wilson used a takedown in the first minute of overtime to pick-up the win.
- The Yellow Jackets had bonus point wins at 125 pounds (17-2 technical fall), 133 pounds (16-2 major decision), 149 pounds (pin), 157 pounds (18-7 major decision) and 197 pounds (pin). BW's lone minor decision victory was 9-4 at 184 pounds.
- The Spartans earned bonus point wins in five of their 10 wins.
- Wallis dropped a 6-4 overtime decision to Jordan Hamdan. He scored a takedown to go up 4-3 before Hamdan escaped to send the bout to sudden death. Hamdan got a takedown in the final seconds of overtime for the winning points.
- Freshman Ramiro Guerrero suffered an 11-7 decision loss to Jaden Enriquez at 157 pounds. Enriquez used an escape and takedown in the third period to snag the close win.
- Briggs lost an 8-1 decision to Caleb Fish.
- Guilford suffered an 8-3 decision loss to Nate Jimenez. The match was tied at 3-3 in the third period before Jimenez scored takedown and two-point near-fall along with the riding time point for the final five points.
- Wilson fell 2-1 to Brad Wilton. Wilson led 1-0 in the third period before Wilton got a late reversal to earn the win.
- Olivet is now off until January 6-7 when it competes at the 2022 United States Marine Corp National Wrestling Coaches Association Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships. The duals will take place at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville.
