Briggs and Guilford win titles to lead wrestling team to first-place finish at 40th Annual ONU Polar Bear Invitational
ADA, Ohio – Led by individual titles by senior Dylan Briggs and junior Owen Guilford, the Olivet College wrestling team captured the team title today at the 40th Annual Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational inside the King Horn Sports Center.

ADA, Ohio – Led by individual titles by senior Dylan Briggs and junior Owen Guilford, the Olivet College wrestling team captured the team title today at the 40th Annual Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational inside the King Horn Sports Center.
- Briggs and Guilford won their respective weight class with 5-0 records.
- Olivet totaled 160.5 points, which was 16.5 points more than runner-up Ohio Northern.
- Seeded No. 1 at 165 pounds, Briggs had a 5-0 record, scoring bonus points in his first four wins (two pins, one technical fall and one major decision). In the championship match, he defeated Jordan Hardrick from Ohio Northern, 6-1. For his performance, Briggs was the named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler.
- Seeded No. 1 at 174 pounds, Guilford posted a 5-0 record. Three wins were first-period pins (1:42, 1:38, 1:05), another win was a 22-6 technical fall, and the fifth win was medical forfeit victory.
- Seeded No. 1 at 133 pounds, sophomore Dylan Phelps finished second with a 3-1 record. After receiving a bye in the first round, he won a 17-2 technical fall before posting two minor decision victories (8-5, 11-7). Phelps lost the championship bout to Tanner Smith from Adrian College, 10-8. The difference in the match was a reversal in the final seconds.
- Seeded No. 2 at 141 pounds, senior Reese Wallis recorded a 3-1 record to place second. He won by fall (6:05), major decision (8-0) and minor decision (4-1) before dropping a 3-1 overtime decision to No. 1 seed Jakob Reed from Ohio Northern in the championship bout.
- Seeded No. 3 at 184 pounds, sophomore Justin Carnahan had a 4-1 record to finish as the runner-up. He posted three first-period pins (1:44, 1:37, 0:41) and 7-2 decision to reach the championship bout, falling to Michael Jacobs from Adrian, 14-8.
- Sophomore Christian Lenon was third at 149 pounds.
- Senior Dominick Wilson placed fourth at 285 pounds. He had four pins in 17:04 to win the Most Falls in Least Time award.
- Freshman Tyler Herrema was fifth at 141 pounds.
- Freshman Robert Davids finished sixth in the 133-pound bracket.

- The tournament title is the 73rd in school history and the first since January 17, 2015, when the Comets captured the Elmhurst (Ill.) College Al Hanke championship.
- Olivet has participated in 23 of the 40 Ohio Northern Invitationals. With today's first-place finish, the Comets have won the team title six times. The other championships were in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
- Olivet heads to Waverly, Iowa, next Saturday, December 11, to participate in the Wartburg College Dick Walker Duals.
