Wrestling team kicks-off season at two open tournaments
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team started its season by competing today at the Muskegon Community College and Michigan State University open tournaments.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team started its season by competing today at the Muskegon Community College and Michigan State University open tournaments.
- At Muskegon, freshman Kody Krupp placed second in the 184-pound bracket and Jesse Brumm was third in the 133-pound bracket. Freshmen Austin Bush and Robert Davids finished fifth at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively.
- At Michigan State, sophomore Justin Carnahan was third in the 184-pound freshman/sophomore bracket.
- In the first round, Krupp eked out a 6-5 decision victory, and followed that with a second-period pin in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he defeated Andrew Williamson from Trine (Ind.) University, 14-7. In the championship bout, Krupp fell to the top-seeded wrestler, Bronson Jewell from Muskegon, 12-4.
- Brumm won his first two matches, 15-1 and 7-4. In the semifinals, he lost 7-4. Brumm bounced back to beat William Miller from Mott Community College, 8-1, before defeating Gabe Livingston, an unattached wrestler, 5-3, in the third-place match.
- Bush posted a 2-2 record, with both of his wins being pin.
- Davids had a 3-2 record, with two pins and a sudden-death victory.
- Carnahan lost his first match before rebounding with four straight wins. He posted a 17-0 technical fall over Devonjae Hudson from Northern Illinois University, pinned Joseph Lyons from Cleveland State (Ohio) University and defeated Mitch Hutmacher from Purdue (Ind.) University to make the third-place match. In that match, Carnahan pinned Gavin Bell from Ohio State University in 38 seconds.
- The Comets compete at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational next Saturday, November 13.
