MANHEIM, Pa. – Eight Olivet College wrestlers have earned 2021 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American honors. The honorees are junior Dylan Briggs, sophomore Owen Guilford, senior Adam Hall, senior Cameron Mahlich, junior Hunter Murphy, junior Reese Wallis, sophomore Zach Wells and junior Dominick Wilson.
Mahlich becomes the first four-time NWCA Scholar All-American in school history. Wallis is now a three-time honoree. Briggs, Guilford, Hall, Murphy and Wilson are two-time selections.
The eight wrestlers are among 413 individuals representing 84 institutions on this year's list of honorees. This season, due to COVID-19 protocols that kept many conferences and their teams sidelined, the Division III Leadership Group was moved to make changes to this year's awards program. Most notably, the team component has been suspended until next season with recognition going to individuals only. It was also decided that athletes unable to compete this season would be eligible for nomination and could receive All-America status.
The eight honorees are the second-most for one season in school history. The previous best was 10 last season. Since the inception of the NWCA Scholar All-American award in 1984, 71 Olivet student-athletes have combined to earn 129 total awards.
