Seven Olivet College wrestlers earn 2021 All-MIAA honors
FREELAND, Mich. – Seven Olivet College wrestlers have been named to the 2021 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) team. The honorees are senior Cameron Mahlich, junior Reese Wallis, freshman Dylan Phelps, sophomore Hunter Murphy, sophomore Owen Guilford, senior Trevor Piggott and sophomore Dominick Wilson.

The honorees are senior Cameron Mahlich, junior Reese Wallis, freshman Dylan Phelps, sophomore Hunter Murphy, sophomore Owen Guilford, senior Trevor Piggott and sophomore Dominick Wilson.
The seven earned this honor after winning their respective weight class at the 2021 MIAA Individual Championships January 30 at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The seven honorees match the 1984 team for the most honorees in a single-season in school history.
Mahlich, a two-time All-MIAA selection, captured the 125-pound title with a 3-0 record. In the pool play round, he had an 18-1 technical fall and 42-second pin. In the championship match, Mahlich beat Alma's Chase Beecher.
Wallis, a three-time All-MIAA selection, had a 4-0 record to win the 133-pound title. His pool play wins were a pair of technical falls (17-0 and 16-1), and major decision (12-0). In the championship bout, Wallis rallied to edge Alma's Austin Wieczorek, 6-4, in overtime.
At 141 pounds, Phelps finished with a 3-0 record at 141 pounds to claim his first All-MIAA award. He had two major decisions (18-3 and 12-4) in pool play before defeating Alma's Matt Tomsett, 9-5, in the championship final.
Murphy went 4-0 at 149 pounds to secure his first All-MIAA award. In pool play, he tallied three bonus point wins – 17-1 technical fall, 36-second pin and 17-4 major decision. In the championship match, Murphy pinned Adrian's Noah Niemann in one minute and 23 seconds.
Guilford finished with a 3-0 record at 174 pounds for his first All-MIAA selection. His three wins – pin (3:53), minor decision (8-2) and major decision (14-1) – were all in pool play. In the championship bout, Guilford was given the default win over teammate Zach Wells.
Piggott posted a 4-0 record at 197 pounds to earn his first All-MIAA citation. During the pool play matches, he had a pin (2:43), and major decisions (10-2 and 14-4). In the championship final, Piggott defeated Adrian's Donald Moses III, 2-0. The only points scored in the match was an escape to start the second period and riding time point at the end of the match.
Wilson won the 285-pound title with a 3-0 record to pick-up his first All-MIAA honor. In pool play, he had two decision victories (2-0 and 4-0) and a pin (1:32). The 2-0 victory was over nationally-ranked Isaiah Espinosa from Adrian. Wilson was awarded the default win in the championship bout over teammate Donovan King.
The Comets are back in action Sunday when they host Augsburg (Minn.) University, Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University and Alma. Action gets started at 12 p.m. Next Saturday, February 13, the four MIAA schools will gather at Alma for the 2021 MIAA Dual Meet Championships. At that event, each school will wrestle a dual match against the other three schools and the school with the best record will be declared the 2021 MIAA Champion.
