Wrestling team defeats Grand Valley, 22-13
The Olivet College wrestling team posted wins in six weight classes en route to a 22-13 victory over Grand Valley State University, 22-13, this afternoon at Allendale High School.
The Olivet College wrestling team posted wins in six weight classes en route to a 22-13 victory over Grand Valley State University, 22-13, this afternoon at Allendale High School.
After losing close matches at 125 and 133 pounds, sophomore Vince Tucker (Clio) put the Comets' first four team points on the scoreboard with a 16-8 major decision victory at 141 points. Senior Rob Yahrmarkt (Sparta) added three more team points to the scoreboard with a 13-9 minor decision win.
Senior Jason Brew (Sparta) stretched Olivet's lead to 12-6 when he recorded a 25-10 technical fall victory at 157 pounds. Senior Kyle Vanderhyde (Sparta) recorded a 15-7 major decision win at 174 pounds.
Junior Joe Bargerstock (Livonia/Churchill) contributed three team points when he won, 11-6, at 184 pounds. Senior Sean Misko (Casco/Richmond) closed the match and the Comets' scoring with a 3-1 decision at 285 pounds.
Olivet will return to action this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31, when it participates in the Pete Willison Invitational at Wheaton (Ill.) College. Action gets started Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT, and will wrap-up on Saturday morning, beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT.
