Women’s golf team finishes in third-place at Katman Klassic

After carding a 328 team in Saturday's first round, the Comets lowered their team score by 12 strokes in today's round for a two-round total of 644 strokes. The host Tigers won the team championship with a 638 (325-313), and Illinois Wesleyan University was second with a 640 (327-313).
All four Olivet golfers were in the top 15 of the player standings. Junior Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) was third at 157 (79-78). Sophomore Lauren Campbell (Fenton) posted the team's best round today with a 77. She had an 84 yesterday for a two-round total of 161 strokes to finish in a tie for eighth. Junior Abby Wheeler (Grayling) was one stroke behind, totaling 162 (80-82) strokes to be a part of a four-way tie for 10th-place. Senior Megan Rimmel (Ithaca) improved by six strokes today for a two-round total of 164 (85-79).
The Comets will host the first round of the 2010 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) playoff Wednesday at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. The outing has a noon shotgun start. The winner of three-round MIAA playoff will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
