Women’s golf team wins MIAA Jamboree #3, extends lead in seasonal standings

With a course record 327 team score, the Olivet College women's golf team won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #3 today at the Thornapple Point Golf Club in Grand Rapids. With the finish, the Comets also extend their lead in the league's seasonal standings.

Following Olivet in today's round was Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at 331. Hope was third (333), followed by Trine (354), Albion (355), Kalamazoo (359), Alma (374), Calvin (405) and Adrian (407). Individually, senior Lindsay Pipkin (White Lake/Lakeland) and Saint Mary's Rosie O'Connor shared medalist honors with a 78. The 78s tied the MIAA course record.

Overall, all seven, including their two individual scorers, Olivet golfers placed in the top 12 of the player standings. Following Pipkin was junior Katie Misko (Alma) was fifth with an 81. Sophomore Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and junior Megan Rimmel (Ithaca) tied for eighth with 84s. Freshman Lauren Campbell (Fenton) rounded the starting five with an 85.

Senior Trisha McKim (DeWitt) and sophomore Abby Wheeler (Grayling) each had an 84, as the Comets' individual scorers.

At the midway point of the MIAA schedule, Olivet leads Saint Mary's in the seasonal standings by 41 total strokes, 959-1,000. Hope is one stroke out of second at 1,001, followed by Albion (1,082), Trine (1,083), Kalamazoo (1,101), Alma (1,136), Adrian (1,200) and Calvin (1,227).

The Comets will take a break from MIAA play and compete in the DePauw (Ind.) University Tournament Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-28. The fourth MIAA is next Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Adrian's Lenawee Country Club. The fifth and sixth rounds are Oct. 10-11 at the Bedford Valley Country in Battle Creek.
