Women’s golf team captures third straight MIAA championship
By virtue of a first-place finish in the final two rounds Friday and Saturday, the Olivet College women’s golf team captured its third straight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship.
By virtue of a first-place finish in the final two rounds Friday and Saturday, the Olivet College women's golf team captured its third straight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship. Over the six league rounds, Olivet totaled 1,977 strokes to beat runner-up Saint Mary's (Ind.) College by 55 strokes. The rest of the top five was Hope (2,053), Albion (2,194) and Trine (2,218).
In addition, four Comet golfers – senior Lindsay Pipkin (White Lake/Lakeland), juniors Katie Misko (Alma) and Megan Rimmel (Ithaca) and sophomore Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) – earned first-team All-MIAA honors. Freshman Lauren Campbell (Fenton) earned second-team All-MIAA honors. Pipkin became the first female in school history to earn first-team All-MIAA honors four consecutive years.
The Comets posted a two-round total of 681 strokes at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. Saint Mary's was second at 685, followed by Hope in third at 705. Pipkin led Olivet with a two-day total of 169 strokes. Misko had a 170, including a team-low 81 in Friday's first round. Conrad and Rimmel each fired a 171. Campbell finished with a 179.
Playing as an individual, senior Trisha McKim (DeWitt) was also named to the all-tournament team with a two-round total of 170 strokes. Sophomore Abby Wheeler needed 181 strokes to complete her rounds.
