Three Olivet College golfers -- sophomore Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), senior Lindsay Pipkin (White Lake/Lakeland) and junior Megan Rimmel (Ithaca) -- have been named to the 2008-09 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-Great Lakes Region Team. In addition, Pipkin was selected to the Duramed NGCA All-American second-team, and Head Coach Bill Maas earned SkyCaddie NGCA Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors. They were recognized at the NGCA Awards Banquet at the NCAA Division III National Championships last month.
This spring, Pipkin led the team with an 80.0 stroke average. Her low round was 72, which broke Olivet's 18-hole school record. Conrad finished the season with an 81.3 stroke average, while Rimmel posted an 83.5 stroke average. In his sixth season as head coach, Maas helped the Comets climb as high as eighth in the golfstat.com NCAA Head-to-Head rankings and ninth in the NGCA coaches' poll.
Competing at the national championships for a third consecutive year, Olivet finished in a tie for 11th-place. Last fall, the Comets won their third straight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship with all five golfers earning All-MIAA honors.
