After posting a 367 team score yesterday on the challenging Players Club Course, the Comets improved by eight strokes on the Foxfire Course today for a two-day total of 725 strokes. Otterbein (Ohio) College took first-place with 662 strokes (334-328), followed by DePauw (Ind.) University, 669 (333-336) in second and Ohio Northern University, 719 (366-353) in fourth.
Individually, all five Olivet golfers lowered their scores in today's second round. Senior Amanda Sanders (Concord) led the way, as she had a two-day total of 176 (89-87) strokes. Junior Lindsay Pipkin (White Lake/Lakeland) was next at 180 (92-88). The rest of the lineup was sophomore Megan Rimmel (Ithaca) at 183 (92-91), freshman Amber Conrad (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) at 186 (94-92) and junior Trisha McKim (DeWitt) at 198 (101-97).
The Comets are back in action Wednesday when they compete in the first of three playoff rounds that will determine the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championships. The first round will be played at Tri-State's Zollner Golf Course, while the final two rounds will be played on Olivet's home course, The Medalist Golf Club, on April 25-26.
